It is not literately second time to Phompenh; actually it's the fourth time. But for me, it seems to be second time after 7 years. This trip surprised me a lot by the change of the city since 2011 - my first trip abroad.
Compared to 7 years ago, it's the boom of motorbikes. It means that the population in Phnom Penh is increasing.

Streets are overloaded with different types of transportation and of course, traffic jams become normal at whatever time, 3pm or 10am.

In respect of behaviours in streets, it appears that the influence of Thailand is weakening, instead, Vietnamese style is dominants with chaos of traffic and style of driving. New types of business in transportation using technology appear like Pass App or Grab along with the traditional Tuk Tuk

But also many high buildings exist and are being constructed.
New areas with well-designed building showing up how rich and luxurious.
Big Chinese investment makes people worry. My friend is one of them, "They buy land and as a result, the price is increasing sharply... They occupy the beach and no one, even Cambodian, wants to go there because of the loud and trash"
Meanwhile, private schools provides Chinese as a subject to learn at school besides English and Khmer. In some schools, Khmer is learnt around 2-4 hours per week.
Chinese investment is both opportunities and threads for Cambodian people.
Diamond Island, a new area, shows the promise of richness in Phnom Penh. People expanded the island by pulling sand into that. They name the streets with Western places such as Yale, Oxford while the old streets are named by numbers since the French colony.
The view of Western richness is reflected by the design of the building with Roman or Renaissance architect or high-end tall building with countless windows. However, trees are small and hardly to be found in these areas.
In Vietnam, the economic growths increases too fast for major people to adapt it. The development in awareness and perception go behind. It leads to under-grounded social, cultural and traditional conflict. And this one appears to be applied again in Phnom Penh where money is the most important thing for people to strive for, judgement by appearance becomes common. The different element is the religion, whether Buddhism can become an anchor for people to keep their humanities against the wave of money craziness.
